Look, you probably can't read, fox, but the sign says: 'We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone'. So beat it!
―Jerry Jumbeaux, Jr. to Nick

Jerry Jumbeaux, Jr. is a male African elephant who owns Jumbeaux's Café in Zootopia. He is also a suspect in Case 2, Melting Messes, of Zootopia: Crime Files.

Role in the Film[]

Nick and Jerry arguing

Jerry telling Nick to leave his café

Jerry Jumbeaux, Jr. appears in his café, refusing service to Nick Wilde, accusing him of skulking around his shop and pointedly telling him to leave.

Despite Nick's insistence that he simply wants to buy a Jumbo-pop for his "son", Jerry points to a sign with the words "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone", and again demands that they leave. However, Judy Hopps, who followed Nick into the ice cream shop, overhears the argument, and points out a rather serious health code violation that his waiter committed. However, she's willing to just issue a warning if he agrees to sell Nick a Jumbo-pop, causing Jerry to relent.

Role in Literature[]

Judy Hopps and the Missing Jumbo-Pop[]

Judy Hopps and Ernie visit Jumbeaux's Café after Ernie remembers visiting the restaurant earlier that day. Jerry reminds Ernie that he said he wanted a Jumbo-pop that was a special shade of red.

Help Wanted[]

The comic begins with a tiger asking Jerry if there are still working positions open at Jumbeaux's. Jerry initially says no, stating that the position is filled, but chaos caused by a new elephant waiter causes Jerry to change his mind. He asks the tiger when he can start working.

Role in Zootopia: Crime Files[]

Paul said he sold his place to some development, and if I was smart I'd sell too. If I was smart? Do you know how big an elephant's brain is?
―Jumbeaux, Melting Messes
New Suspect - Jumbeaux

Jerry appears in Melting Messes, the second case of the early version of the game, where he is addressed simply as "Jumbeaux". In Seeds of Doubt, the updated case of the game, Jerry is replaced with Rodney, while Raoul is the victim of his shop being vandalized.

Information[1][]

  • 15 ft. tall
  • 14,980 lbs
  • Usually glaring
  • Dislikes customers

The case he appears in revolves around the vandalization of his café. Earl says Jerry is a neighbor of Paul.

It is later revealed to be Paul who vandalized the café after he sold his store to a company called Sequoia Towers and tried to scare Jerry into selling the café.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Jerry's name is a reference to the Disney movie Dumbo, in which the titular character is initially given the name Jumbo Jr.
  • Jerry's first name is never spoken in the film.
  • In a deleted version of the scene, instead of refusing service to Nick because he's a fox, Jerry doesn't want to sell the Jumbo-pop to Nick because Finnick would be unable to finish it which would then drip all over the place and he would have to clean up the mess. The scene was changed to Jerry using the "right to refuse" excuse that was historically used by stores to support prejudice. The current version portrays Nick in a sympathetic light and avoids having the audience wonder why Nick doesn't just order the Jumbo-pop "To Go" to avoid the issue entirely as they do immediately leave the store.
  • Originally, Jerry's "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" sign was going to say "No free Jumbo-Pops".[3]
  • Since they are both African elephants, Jerry has a passing resemblance to Tantor from Disney's Tarzan despite their color difference. (Jerry is grey, Tantor is reddish-brown).
