Role in the Film
In the jungle, a little, feral rabbit hops gingerly through the foliage, unknowing that there is a tiger watching her. The rabbit stops at a watering hole to drink, when suddenly, the tiger springs out of nowhere...the scene cuts to reality in an auditorium, where on the stage, a young rabbit named Judy Hopps yells in fright as she is 'attacked' by a young jaguar named Jaguar. Judy demonstrates her bloody demise by throwing red ribbons and squirting ketchup onto herself, much to her parents' disgust.
Judy stands back up and explains that thousands of years ago, animals where divided in two: predators and prey. Cardboard boxes on ropes labeled "Vicious predator" and "Meek prey" lower down over Judy and Jaguar, while a sheep named Sharla dances around them. Then, the boxes raise again, revealing Judy and Jaguar wearing white robes. Judy explains that over time, mammals moved beyond their primitive, savage ways and began to live in harmony.
Sharla agrees and plops a helmet over her head, saying that she wants to be an astronaut when she grows up. Jaguar chimes in by saying that he wants to hunt for tax exemptions by being an actuary. As for Judy, she throws off her
robe to reveal a police costume, and states that she wants to be a police officer when she grows up. A bully fox named Gideon Grey snickers at this idea, but Judy reprimands him and says that though it may seem impossible, just a few miles away stands the city of Zootopia, where anyone can be anything. Judy then bids the audience good night.
